ACTON — Fire Chief Anita Arnum reports that the Acton Fire Department extinguished a working fire in an apartment on Main Street on Saturday afternoon.
On Saturday, Oct. 12, at approximately 4:08 p.m., the Acton Fire Department was called to the area of 274 Main St., for a report of black smoke coming from a second floor window in a home.
Acton Police and Fire arrived to find heavy smoke coming from Unit 7A of the Redstone Apartments, made entry into the building, and discovered a dryer fire on the second floor of an apartment.
An engine company from Concord and a ladder truck from Littleton responded to the scene as mutual aid, and firefighters from Boxborough and Westford covered Acton fire stations.
Companies on scene quickly knocked down the dryer fire and contained fire damage to the room of origin.
A dog and a cat were rescued from the apartment. The residents of the apartment were not home at the time.
A firefighter was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Acton Fire Department.
“I want to thank all of our mutual aid support. We appreciate their assistance as we quickly knocked this fire down and prevented it from spreading throughout the building,” said Chief Arnum. “Companies did an excellent job responding to this fire quickly and professionally, and saved two pets in the process.”
