DURHAM – Principal Bill Sullivan proudly shares that the Oyster River Middle School Jazz Band and Festival Band brought home multiple honors at the Music in the Parks Festival earlier this month.
The bands performed at Hersheypark on May 18, securing first place middle school jazz ensemble and middle school concert band, both based on school size and among all middle schools.
Music in the Parks organizes school music festivals at theme parks across the country each spring. Performing ensembles learn from leaders in music education, and have the opportunity to find musical growth and success.
ORMS’ exceptional showing reinforces the school’s and District’s commitment to excellence in music education and serves as an example of its students’ flourishing talents.
“Our students’ outstanding performance at Music in the Parks makes us incredibly proud,” Principal Sullivan said. “It’s a bright example of their hard work, dedication, the support of our school community, and the exceptional guidance of our music teachers.”
ORMS students also visited Gettysburg and enjoyed time spent performing for judges and having fun at Hersheypark.
The bands are led by music teachers Sarah Kuhn and Jacob Boulay.
“Jacob and I are incredibly proud of our students’ hard work and commitment,” Kuhn said. “They played very well and all their hard work paid off.”
