STONEHAM — Superintendent David Ljungberg is pleased to announce that Kathryn Castonguay has been appointed to be the new Assistant Superintendent of Stoneham Public Schools.
Castonguay, one of two finalists selected by a screening and interview committee, was voted into the position by the School Committee on Feb. 15. She was Superintendent Ljungberg’s recommendation for the position.
Assistant Superintendent Castonguay will begin her new role on July 1.
Assistant Superintendent Castonguay has 27 years of experience in education, and has spent the past 20 years working as a Principal in Boxford’s two elementary schools. She has also served Boxford Public Schools as an Assistant Principal and Special Education Coordinator. As a Principal, Castonguay was known for keeping innovation, and for ensuring engagement and inclusion was at the forefront of her work.
Castonguay is an adjunct instructor at Northeast Consortium and a visiting professor at Salem State University.
She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Keene State College, a Master’s in School Leadership from Wheelock College, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Boston College. She also holds a certificate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion from Suffolk University.
“I am very much looking forward to joining the Stoneham Public School community,” said Castonguay. “I have been very excited about the prospect of spending time in each school to get to know the students, staff and parents and one of my first priorities will be to build strong and collaborative relationships within each stakeholder group. During my first year, it will be my goal to develop an entry plan that will assist with my transition into the district and will provide me a deeper understanding of the strengths and needs of the school community. I am honored and thrilled to become a part of this wonderful and well respected school district!”
