HAMPTON — Superintendent Dr. Lois Costa and Principal Ken Hawkins are pleased to share that School Resource Officer (SRO) Det. Zachary Terenzoni was recognized earlier this month by the New Hampshire Juvenile Police Officer Association (NHJPOA) in honor of National SRO Day.
At a surprise ceremony at Hampton Academy earlier this month, Milford School Resource Officer Richard Addonizio, president of NHJPOA, presented Det. Terenzoni with a special award. All students, faculty and staff assembled in the school auditorium to surprise their school resource officer. Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno offered remarks, and many of Det. Terenzoni’s fellow Hampton police officers showed up in comradery.
The Juvenile Police Officer Association put out a call for honorees earlier this year, asking for school leaders to submit their nominations. Det. Terenzoni was nominated because of his unwavering support of kids in the Hampton community, and the NHJPOA received multiple letters from students and faculty alike recognizing his work in the school.
Det. Terenzoni is known to participate in gym classes, often randomly showing up to play games and sports with the kids. He is a regular chaperone for the school’s Friday night ski club at Pat’s Peak. He sits down to eat lunch with kids almost every day. He sits in on classes – not just as a basic math and social studies refresher for himself, but also to spend time with students in a manner that is not always rigidly structured. He coaches baseball in town, chaperones school dances and provides important resources for kids on the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
“Det. Terenzoni is part of our school family, and is a valued friend, ally, coach and resource for students and teachers alike,” said Physical Education Teacher Ellen Morrissey, one of the teachers who recommended him for the honor. “He makes a connection between the youth of our community and our local police department. He teaches our students how to be safe and make good decisions as they grow and are faced with the challenges in our fast-paced, changing world.”
