NEWBURYPORT – Mayor Sean Reardon and the City of Newburyport invite the community to join members of the Newburyport Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for a celebration of International Human Rights Day.
International Human Rights Day, observed on Dec. 10, commemorates the day in 1948 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a result of the experience of the Second World War.
Newburyport will join communities across the globe to recognize the 75th anniversary of the Declaration’s signing with a celebration on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Market Square, 11 Merrimac St.
Members of the Newburyport Human Rights Commission will kick off the celebration by reading from and displaying the 30 articles from the Declaration.
The NHRC will follow the readings with an interfaith prayer.
