PETERBOROUGH 一 Superintendent Kimberly Rizzo Saunders and Principal Larry Pimental would like to share that Peterborough Elementary School students were visited by members of Peterborough Fire and Rescue, helping to build positive relationships between students and public safety personnel.
Members of Peterborough Fire and Rescue visited Peterborough Elementary on Friday, Oct. 13. Firefighters arrived in two ladder trucks and with their equipment and gear, ready to conduct demonstrations and take questions from students.
Students were able to check out the trucks, sit behind the wheel, try on protective gear, and see how high the fire ladders extend.
Each grade level met with the firefighters, who shared fire safety tips including talking to their families to make a home evacuation plan, regularly checking smoke detectors, closing doors when there is a fire, and calling 911 in case of an emergency.
Personnel also posed several questions to students on what they would do in fire emergency situations. Students provided their answers and asked additional follow-up questions.
“Thank you to Peterborough Fire and Rescue for coming out to PES and showing our students what you do each day to protect our community,” said Principal Pimental. “The students had a wonderful time learning about safety and exploring the trucks and equipment. We are happy that we can have these moments to connect our students to their public safety personnel and build these positive relationships.”
