NORTON — Fire Chief Shawn Simmons reports that the Norton Fire Department and mutual aid partners extinguished a three-alarm fire Tuesday on Carleton Drive.
On Tuesday, April 11, at approximately 5:55 p.m., the Norton Fire Department was notified of a fire at 3 Carlton Drive, a 6,000-square-foot home. Upon arrival, crews discovered a fire that had started on the back porch and spread to the first and second floors. It eventually extended to the attic.
Firefighters were forced to take a defensive posture after the rear of the roof collapsed, and all firefighters were ordered out of the building.
The two occupants of the home escaped uninjured, as did their pets.
The fire was under control by 10 p.m.
A Norton firefighter was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro for treatment of a minor hand injury. He was released and later returned to duty.
Firefighters from Attleboro, Easton, Mansfield, Raynham and Rehoboth, as well as an ambulance crew from North Attleborough, provided mutual aid at the scene. Crews from Foxborough, Mansfield, Rehoboth and Taunton covered Norton’s stations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Norton Fire Department and the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
