The Massachusetts Partnerships for Youth (MPY) is pleased to announce that Executive Director Margie Daniels is being honored by her alma mater, the University of Connecticut’s Neag School of Education.
Director Daniels was named the Neag School’s 2023 Outstanding Professional thanks to a vote of the school’s alumni board, recognizing her work with MPY, her years of educational leadership and work as a licensed independent clinical social worker (LICSW).
The annual award recognizes a graduate of the Neag School of Education who demonstrates excellence and has made significant contributions to their profession.
Daniels earned her bachelor’s degree in special education from the Neag School in 1971. She began her career that same year as a teacher in Lawrence, and went on to become an assistant superintendent for pupil services for Newton Public Schools, director of special services for Lynnfield Public Schools and director of special education for Georgetown Public Schools. Director Daniels is also an adjunct professor at the C. Louis Cedrone International Education Center at Framingham State University.
She has served as the executive director of MPY for more than 15 years, managing MPY’s operations and providing more than 250 school districts and community agencies with professional development focused on mental and behavioral health, social and emotional learning, and anti-racism.
“I am truly honored and humbled by this prestigious award,” said Director Daniels. “My noteworthy four years at the University of Connecticut, as a special education major, provided me with a solid foundation upon which the following 52 years of my career were built. I have always strongly believed in the immense importance of collaboration among educators and mental health professionals to provide all students the best possible educational experience. This includes a focus on fostering positive social and emotional supports, inclusivity and safety.”
