STONEHAM — Chief Matthew Grafton reports that the Stoneham Fire Department responded to a crash on Interstate 93 north in which two vehicles rolled over and an individual was trapped in a vehicle.
On Friday, Dec. 30, at approximately 12:36 p.m., Stoneham Fire Department was called to the northbound lanes of Interstate 93 just before Montvale Avenue for a report of a rollover crash.
Crews arrived to find two vehicles rolled onto their side, one in the breakdown lane, and another about 50 yards up the road in the high speed lane. A third vehicle involved in the crash was also in the high speed lane, about 100 yards further up the road.
Stoneham Fire Department’s Car 2, Engine 2, Engine 3 and Ladder 1 responded to the scene. Three ambulances from Cataldo Ambulance responded as well.
Stoneham Fire crews used hydraulic extrication tools to cut the roof off one of the vehicles that was on its side to free an occupant of that vehicle. That individual and two others were taken to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington.
Reading Fire Department handled a medical call for Stoneham as mutual aid during the response, and both Reading and Woburn sent ambulances to that call. Wakefield Fire Department covered Stoneham stations.
“All the crews worked together and did a great job,” said Capt. Jim Marshall.
Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash. Additional inquiries should be directed to Massachusetts State Police Media Relations.
