GEORGETOWN — The Georgetown Fire Department is pleased to announce that Deputy Chief Matt McKay has been selected as the new fire chief.
McKay will begin his new role on Jan. 1, 2023.
In June, McKay received Fire Chief Accreditation from the Massachusetts Fire Service Commission, based on his fire service experience, education and certifications.
Since joining Georgetown Fire, McKay has earned promotions to the ranks of lieutenant in 2004, captain in 2019 and deputy chief in 2022. During that time, he developed the department’s adopt-a-hydrant program, facilitated the new recruit program and has worked to support department administration and staffing.
“I am excited for this next chapter of my career,” said McKay. “I want to thank the entire department for their continued support throughout the years. I am humbled and honored to serve the same Town I grew up in, and in my new role we will continue to strive for the utmost excellence and safety for the Georgetown community.”
In addition to his Fire Chief Accreditation, McKay holds numerous firefighting certifications including EMT Basic – MA Certification, ProBoard FF I/II Certification, ProBoard HazMat OLR Certification, Fire Prevention Officer-Basic – MA Certification, CPR/First Aid, Strip Mall Firefighting and more. He also received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
