EAST KINGSTON — Chief Ed Warren reports that the East Kingston Fire Department responded to a shed fire Monday evening, and was able to prevent significant damage to the attached home.
At approximately 5:15 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to 67 Haverhill Road for a report of a shed fire. Several firefighters were working a per diem shift at the time and were on scene within three minutes of the call.
Upon arrival, crews found fire in a shed attached to the home. The fire had also ignited multiple propane tanks on the property and had extended to a 35-foot motor home next to the shed, as well as had extended to the house.
A first alarm was struck bringing in mutual aid from the Newton, Kensington, South Hampton, Brentwood and Seabrook Fire Departments, as well as from the Merrimac, Massachusetts Fire Department. The Epping Fire Department also sent an ambulance to the scene to provide rehabilitation services.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading further into the home. They cleared the scene at approximately 7:30 p.m.
One firefighter suffered a hand injury and was transported to an area hospital as a precaution. The homeowner was able to safely exit the home.
The attached shed and motor home sustained significant damage due to the fire. Part of the home sustained damage, but it is not a total loss. Power was cut to the home as a precaution and the homeowner will be able to return to the home once power is restored.
The Kingston and Epping Fire Departments also provided station coverage during the incident.
The initial investigation indicates that the fire is not suspicious and may have originated from a lawn mower.
“The mutual aid system is a crucial part of the fire service, and I would like to thank all of the departments who responded to assist us at the scene as well as covered our station this evening,” Chief Warren said. “Due to the efficient and effective work of all of the firefighters at the scene, we were able to prevent any further damage to the home.”
