ATTLEBORO — Chief Scott Lachance reports that the Attleboro Fire Department extinguished a house fire on the second floor of a multi-family home on Orange Street last night.
At approximately 6:40 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 24, Attleboro Fire responded to a home at 38-40 Orange St. for a report of a fire. Upon arrival, crews witnessed heavy smoke coming from the second floor of the multi-family home.
Firefighters located the fire in the void space between the second-floor ceiling and roof. They worked aggressively to knock down the fire to prevent flames from spreading to the rest of the home. The fire was deemed under control within two hours and the last unit cleared the scene at 9:51 p.m.
All residents were able to exit safely prior to firefighters’ arrival. There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
The eight residents of the home have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. Damage to the home is estimated to be approximately $200,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Attleboro Fire Department.
Providence Canteen 1 responded to the scene to provide water and refreshments for the first responders. Station coverage was provided by the Seekonk and North Attleboro fire departments. Attleboro Police closed down Orange Street while the scene was still active. The road has since been reopened.
