MATTAPOISETT — Superintendent Michael S. Nelson wishes to provide an update regarding the boil water order which now only affects one of the six district schools.
Mattapoisett
It was announced today that the boil water order in Mattapoisett has been lifted by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and town officials. Old Rochester Regional High School, Old Rochester Regional Junior High School, Center School and Old Hammondtown School will no longer have the boil water order in effect.
Marion
The boil water order in Marion, including at the Sippican School, will remain in effect until further notice. The earliest the order could be lifted is on Tuesday, Oct. 19. Officials will provide further updates as new information becomes available.
Bottled water and hand sanitizer will continue to be made available for students at the Sippican School. All water that is used for cooking or drinking will continue to be boiled before use. Additionally, drinking fountains and water refill stations will remain closed at the Sippican School and will not be reopened until the boil water order is lifted.
Rochester
While Rochester residents who utilize Marion municipal water will still be impacted by the boil water order, Superintendent Nelson would like to remind families that the Rochester Memorial School uses well water rather than public water and is therefore not affected by the boil water order. Water being used in the building remains safe.
“We are glad to see that the boil water order has been lifted in Mattapoisett and we will continue to monitor things in Marion and at the Sippican School,” Superintendent Nelson said. “As soon as we receive further updates about the situation in Marion we will provide further updates.”
