MAYNARD — Chief Anthony Stowers reports that the Maynard Fire Department will be implementing temporary changes to all inspection processes in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic and state of emergency. The changes are effective immediately and will continue until further notice.
All non-essential inspections are suspended until further notice. The certification of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors will continue, and residents should call ahead to schedule an appointment. The Department’s business line is 978-897-1014.
Residents or real estate agents should not schedule an inspection if they are experiencing any symptoms consistent with the COVID-19 virus, if they or anyone in the home has self-quarantined, if they have come in contact with anyone who has or is currently self-quarantined, or if they have traveled or come in contact with someone who has traveled.
Before an inspection, residents should meet the inspector outside and remain there until the inspection is completed. Payment can be left on or near the stove in the unit inspected. The department will send certification by email, after which it should be printed and signed.
These changes have been made in an effort to protect both the public and first responders by advancing social distancing measures to reduce the risk of exposure to the virus.
In order to practice social distancing as much as possible during inspections, residents should do their best to ensure their unit is ready to pass inspection.
Common Failures to Avoid:
- No visible house number attached to the home.
- Smoke/carbon monoxide detectors over 10 years old.
- No carbon monoxide detectors within 10 feet of every bedroom and on every habitable level of the home.
