Newington Fire Department Mourns Death of Chief Darin Sabine
NEWINGTON — It is with a heavy heart that Acting Fire Chief E.J. Hoyt and the Newington Fire Department announce the death of Chief Darin J. Sabine.
Chief Sabine, 35, served in various roles on the Newington Fire Department beginning in 2002. He died on Saturday, Sept. 7, after a courageous two-year battle with colon cancer.
Chief Sabine was the loving husband of Jennifer Sabine, and father of their two children, Sophia, 5, and Mya, 3.
He was born and raised in Newington, and began his role as Fire Chief on Nov. 30, 2018. Chief Sabine was known for his love of firefighting and serving the community, and as a boisterous, caring and compassionate individual who managed others well. In recent years, he also delivered donated toys to families in need in the Colebrook area, where his family is from, during the holidays.
“Chief Sabine was an incredible leader, and an exceptionally kind individual, who saw this job as a way to help those in need,” Acting Chief Hoyt said. “All of our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time. We were fortunate to have him as a member of our department for many years, and he will be missed dearly.”
