Hull Police Investigating Anti-Semitic, Racist Graffiti Discovered at Fort Revere

HULL — Chief John Dunn reports that the Hull Police Department is actively investigating an incident where one or more people recently spray painted anti-Semitic and racist graffiti at Fort Revere.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., Monday, Sept. 2, Hull Police were notified that visitors of the park had discovered several disturbing acts of anti-Semitic and racist graffiti.

Hull Police officers responded and an investigation was launched by the HPD Detectives Unit. Several items of evidence were recovered at the scene, and are currently being processed by the Plymouth County Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

It is believed the incident occurred sometime over Labor Day weekend, between Saturday night and Sunday night.

Some 20 different messages and crude drawings were spray painted on the walls and ground of the old fort.

“The desecration of this historic monument will not be tolerated and to see that the graffiti was anti-Semitic and racist is especially disturbing,” Chief Dunn said. “We will investigate these acts fully and apply the full strength of the law on those responsible. This is not something that will be written off as ‘kids being kids.’ There is no place for hate in our society. These kinds of messages instill fear in members of our community.”

At this time, there are no suspects. However, many of the graffiti messages had a sticker next to them with a purple-faced woman. If anyone recognizes the sticker shown below or has information about this incident, they are asked to contact Hull Police at 781-925-1212.

The Hull Police Department will closely monitor the Fort Revere site and will not hesitate to charge those who are found to be breaking the law.

Fort Revere is an eight-acre historic site situated on a small peninsula located in Hull, atop Telegraph Hill. The site features the remains of two seacoast fortifications, a water tower with an observation deck and a military history museum. It also serves as a burial ground for French soldiers who died fighting during the American Revolution.

“Fort Revere is hallowed ground, and it serve as the final resting place for people who helped our national achieve its freedom,” Chief Dunn said. “Those who desecrated it with messages of hate and intolerance will be prosecuted.”

We will be having a gathering to respond to the act of hate that was recently visited on Fort Revere Park in the form of White Supremacist and Anti-Semitic graffiti. This is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 5 at 10:30 a.m. The fort is located at 60 Farina Road in Hull. Please park on the upper level.

The short program will focus on community, hope and renewal.
