Stoneham Fire Department Battles 2-Alarm House Fire
STONEHAM — Chief Matthew Grafton reports that the Stoneham Fire Department battled a two-alarm house fire on Wednesday evening.
The resident of 11 Sherwood Road, a single-family Cape Cod style house, called 911 at 6:25 p.m. to report a fire inside the home. Firefighters arrived within minutes and came upon a fully-involved kitchen fire.
Firefighters mounted an interior attack and requested a second alarm response for additional manpower. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire, but the house sustained serious damage. The fire was declared out by 7:30.
Fire crews from Woburn, Reading Wakefield and Winchester assisted Stoneham at the scene while crews from Medford and Saugus provided station coverage.
The resident was not able to return home Wednesday and was being assisted by a neighbor.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Stoneham Fire Department and the Massachusetts State Fire Marshal’s Office.
