Easton Students Attend Girls STEM Summit
EASTON — Superintendent Lisha Cabral is pleased to share that a group of Oliver Ames High School students attended a Girls STEM summit last weekend.
A group of 14 female students in grades 10-12 attended a Girls Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) summit at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston on Sunday, March 31.
At the summit, students listened to a keynote speech by Lauren Schumacher, Vice President of Goldman Sachs. They then attended a series of career focused workshops that touched on a wide variety of STEM fields and topics including engineering, cybersecurity, and chromatography.
“The summit was a great way to expose our students to a variety of career opportunities that they might not think of otherwise,” said Mary Romans, Head of the Math Department at Oliver Ames High School. “My hope is that they took away an increased awareness of careers that may be an option for them in the future.”
Romans and Oliver Ames Math teacher Kathryn Walker both attended the summit with students.
“Students were very engaged throughout the summit,” Romans said. “There was a very collaborative atmosphere among them as they discussed the concepts presented in each workshop and collaborated with young women from other schools during various activities. All of the students there displayed a true love of learning and an interest in STEM education.”
