Rockland’s Rogers Middle School Hosts 4th Annual History Fair

ROCKLAND — Principal Elizabeth Bohn is pleased to announce that Rogers Middle School hosted a successful three-day history fair over the past week.

The 4th Annual Upper Middle School History Fair was held over the course of three days, on Thursday and Friday last week, and Monday, June 18, inside the middle and high school’s shared library. The fair is put on by the social studies department each year.

Seventh and eighth grade students showcased research, writing and presentation skills that they learned throughout the school year.

In preparation for the fair, students worked diligently for three weeks to produce writing portfolios, models and tri-fold board displays that were presented to their peers, school faculty, family and members of the community.

“Each year the history fair is a great way for our students to celebrate their academic and creative excellence,” said lead social studies department teacher Joan Costello. “Not only can they display the practical skills they have learned this year, but the fair also allows them to show off their knowledge and understanding of the importance of history.”

Over 500 people visited the fair during its first day. Proudly standing by their finished projects, the students presented their work and shared their knowledge of the subjects of their research.

In addition to enjoying the students’ projects, those in attendance had the opportunity to visit the “Ancient Flavors Tasting Table.” Seventh grade students offered samples of authentic historical recipes they prepared for visitors to try.

After examining the projects, attendees were asked to cast their ballots for the viewer’s choice awards.

On the last two days of the fair, fourth, fifth and sixth grade students toured the library in order to view the projects and anticipate their future participation in the event.
