Dr. Timothy Stokes Joins Kearsarge School District as Principal of Simonds Elementary School
NEW LONDON — Superintendent Winfried Feneberg, with the support of the School Board, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Timothy Stokes as the principal at Simonds Elementary School.
Stokes will step into his new role on July 1. He currently serves as the Assistant Principal at New Boston Central School, a position he’s held since 2014.
For the 11 years prior to working in New Boston, he taught sixth grade math in the Hopkinton School District.
Following his graduation from Bates College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English, Stokes joined Teach for America and was placed in the Bronx, New York. There, he served as an elementary school teacher at the Community School 44 from 1997-2003.
Stokes also holds a master’s degree in elementary education from the City University of New York, a doctorate in educational leadership from New England College and has a certification to be a principal in New Hampshire. He is currently an adjunct professor of education at Southern New Hampshire University.
“Dr. Stokes has more than two decades of experience in elementary education, which makes him the ideal person to lead Simonds Elementary School,” Superintendent Feneberg said. “We’re excited to have him on board, and over the next few months he will be working to get to know parents and community members. Please join me in welcoming him to the district.”
In April, Superintendent Feneberg formed a screening committee — consisting of teachers, administrators, staff, parent representatives and a school board member — to find a new principal to lead the Simonds Elementary School. Stokes was selected from a field of more than 20 applicants as the most qualified candidate.
