Raynham Fire Department to Host 29th Annual Youth Fishing Derby
RAYNHAM — Chief James T. Januse is pleased to announce that the Raynham Fire Department will be hosting their 29th Annual Youth Fishing Derby next week.
“This is a tradition that we have been doing at the Raynham Fire Department for nearly three decades,” Chief Januse said. “Our guys look forward to it every year and it’s great seeing the look on the kids’ faces when they pull a fish out of the water.”
WHEN
- Saturday, May 19, from 8 a.m. to noon. Rain or shine.
- Registration is at 7 a.m. at the Raynham Fire Station, 37 Orchard St.
WHERE
Johnson’s Pond, North Main Street, Raynham
WHO
The derby is open to children up to age 14 and their parents, as long as they are Raynham residents.
WHAT
The Raynham Firefighters Youth Fishing Derby is held each year at Johnson’s Pond. The free event has about 100 kids attend each year.
This year, prizes will be given out to children in three different age groups: Ages 6 and under; ages 7-10; and ages 11-14.
Those who would like to attend are responsible for bringing their own fishing equipment and bait, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
Fishing can be done from the shore or from inside a canoe, kayak or small boat. Anyone in the water must wear a life jacket.
After the derby, refreshments will be served at the fire station and the prizes will be awarded to those with the five biggest catches in each age group.
