Stoughton High School Teacher Displays Device; Students Believed to be a Taser

STOUGHTON — On Wednesday evening, it was reported to Principal Juliette Miller that a classroom teacher at Stoughton High School had, during a class on Tuesday, showed students a device that appeared to be a Taser.

The incident was immediately reported to the Stoughton Police Department. An investigation was launched, and the device was found to be an ultrasonic device meant to train and deter dogs.

“We believe that these actions by a teacher are highly inappropriate and not reflective of our values as a safe and nurturing school community,” Principal Miller said. “Displaying weapons, carrying weapons, or alluding to weapons of any kind is simply unacceptable, be it by a teacher or student.”

Principal Miller and Stoughton High School staff have reached out to all students in the class in question and their parents — both in writing and either in person or by telephone — today. Adjustment counselors will be made available for any students wishing to take advantage of the resources offered by the school.”

The safety and education of our students is always the number one priority and at the forefront of every decision,” Principal Miller said. “I encourage parents and guardians to have conversations with their children about this incident and about the concept of ‘see something, say something.’ It is only by working together that we build and ensure the safest possible school environment.”

The teacher is no longer an employee of the Stoughton Public Schools.
