Avon Superintendent Elected to Council for Exceptional Children Board of Directors

AVON– Avon Public Schools is pleased to announce that Superintendent Paul Zinni has been elected to serve on the Council for Exceptional Children’s National Governance Board of Directors.

The CEC is an association of educators dedicated to advancing the success of children with exceptionalities, and is the largest special education organization in the world, with more than 27,000 members in 26 different countries. Its National Governance Board of Directors is comprised of four officers and 15 members at large. As a member of the Board, Superintendent Zinni will have the responsibility of advancing CEC’s programs and goals in an effort to support its members. His three-year term will begin on Jan. 1.

“I’m honored to have been elected to the CEC’s Board of Directors,” Superintendent Zinni said. “As a longtime member of CEC, I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back to an organization that has given me so much. I’m excited to work with my fellow Board members to continue to provide exceptional support and programs for the children involved in the organization.”

Superintendent Zinni joined the CEC in 1984, when he was an undergraduate at Bridgewater State University and served as the President of the student chapter. Since then, he’s held multiple leadership roles with the Massachusetts Chapter of CEC, including President, Vice President, Conference Chairperson, Membership Chairperson, Children and Youth Action Network Coordinator, Representative to the Representative Assembly, Secretary and Treasurer. During his tenure at the state level, Superintendent Zinni also volunteered at the national level, serving as a member of the Representative Assembly Committee for two years before becoming chair, a position he held for two years.

Outside of his 33 years of experience with the CEC, Superintendent Zinni has demonstrated leadership in his prior roles, serving as Special Education Director, Early Childhood Administrator, Title 1 Director and Principal, both at Taunton Public Schools and Avon Public Schools. For the last four years, he’s led the Avon Public Schools as Superintendent. In his spare time, he serves as an adjunct professor for Bridgewater State University, Lesley University and Stonehill College, where he teaches special education.
