Groveland Fire Department and A.W. Chesterton Company to Participate in Groveland Day
GROVELAND – Fire Chief Robert Lay and Andrew Chesterton, CEO and President of A.W. Chesterton Company, are pleased to announce that several activities are planned for Groveland Day this weekend.
The annual event, which occurs on Sept. 17, invites residents out of their homes and into the community to celebrate the town. To begin the day, Chesterton will host the 5th Annual Chesterton 5k Walk/Run and Kids 1 Mile Fun Run
The 1 Mile Fun Run will begin at 8 a.m. and the 5K will start at 8:30 a.m., both at the Chesterton headquarters, 860 Salem St. Participants in the the 5k Walk/Run, will start and finish at the Chesterton facility. The Kids 1 Mile Fun Run will be two laps around the Chesterton property. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age group.
“As in years past, we’re excited to host this race for avid runners, beginners and children who want to challenge themselves with the mile fun run,” Chesterton said. “Saturday is looking like it will be a beautiful day and we’re anticipating a great turnout for the race.”
After the race, beginning at 10 a.m., a celebration will be held at the Pines Recreation Area (222 Main St.)
The Groveland Fire Department will have several activities planned for families. A junior firefighting challenge will give children the opportunity to go through a miniature obstacle course that features different aspects of the fire industry – from crawling through tunnels (like when firefighters crawl through a burning building), carrying a hose and shooting at a target with the hose.
Gear from the Haverhill Firefighting Museum will be available for children to try on and Groveland firefighters will demonstrate how to do so using their own suits and equipment.
Residents are also invited to visit the fire education booth, where handouts on Fire Prevention Week (Oct 9-15) and general fire education topics will be available. Firefighters will also perform CPR demonstrations.
“This has always been a fun event for the Groveland Fire Department that really allows the community to interact with firefighters, while learning about fire safety, in an enjoyable setting,” Chief Lay said. “We have a lot of great activities planned, especially for our youth, and we hope to see residents out enjoying Groveland Day.”
The West Newbury Fire Department’s Ladder truck will also be on site to assist Groveland’s Cub Scout Pack 113 with their egg drop project at 1 p.m.
To end the day, a BBQ and band will play at night at the Pines for all to enjoy.
