Georgetown Call Firefighter Hired Full Time at Cambridge Fire Department
GEORGETOWN — Chief Fred Mitchell Jr. announces that Call Firefighter Cam Moyer has been hired as a full-time firefighter at the Cambridge Fire Department.
He will begin his new role on March 14.
“Firefighter Moyer has served us and the community well over the years,” Chief Mitchell said. “We wish him nothing but the best from all his friends at Georgetown Fire Department.”
Moyer joined the Georgetown Fire Department Explorer Post 81 in 2005. The organization was established to provide members with information on firefighting by learning basic and advanced techniques used by firefighters every day. Members are also introduced to Emergency Medical Services and exposed to skills used by Emergency Medical Technicians while in the field.
In October of 2008, Moyer earned a spot in the department as a call firefighter. A year later, he joined the United States Army as a firefighter and was on active duty until June 2014. While in the military, Moyer graduated from the Louis F. Garland Fire Academy with FF I/II, Airport FF, Fire Instructor I/II, Fire Officer I/II, Fire Inspector I, Hazardous Materials Incident Commander and Hazardous Material Operations/Awareness certifications. After completing his tour, he moved back to Georgetown and continued working with the fire department.
In 2014, Moyer completed the EMT-Basic certification through North Shore Community College. During the summer of 2015, he graduated from American Military University with a bachelor’s degree in fire science management, and in the fall enrolled at Anna Maria College in a master’s program for public administration with a fire service specialty.
