GOAL

To effectively communicate the celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill reenactment in Gloucester, MA, through various media platforms including website, social media, and media engagement.

Background

Through JGPR’s event planning and support services, combined with our extensive media relations expertise and rapid website deployment skills, JGPR helped bring the Battle of Bunker Hill 250 to life in Gloucester, Mass. Through our existing relationship with host group, the Lexington Minute Men and our ongoing contract with the Gloucester Police and Fire Departments, JGPR came in to assist the Battle of Bunker Hill 250 Commission with just weeks to go until the events. JGPR led overall media relations and assisted in promoting the 250th Battle of Bunker Hill Reenactment events in Gloucester on June 21 and 22. We also redesigned and redeployed the official Battle of Bunker Hill 250 website in under 72 hours.

The result was a fantastic weekend that was fit for all ages. Gloucester welcomed more than 20,000 people to Stage Fort Park over the two-day period.

Concept

JGPR developed a media strategy combining social media, website design, and media relations to highlight and bring attention to the reenactments and other events, and emphasize the historical significance of the Battle of Bunker Hill. JGPR also brought event planning experience to the table, ensuring the proper placement of media risers, audio/visual equipment, and vendors.

Campaign Components:

  • Redesigning, launching, and maintaining the official 250th Battle of Bunker Hill Reenactment website: battleofbunkerhill250.com
  • Promoting the Battle of Bunker Hill Reenactment events on the website and social media accounts through curated graphics, blog posts, and more.
  • Designing a flyer, social media graphics, and a program that was handed out during the weekend, which featured a detailed map and schedule of events.
  • Leveraging media relationships and pitching to local and national outlets to attain media placements before and during the events, including staging a kickoff press conference the day prior to the events.
  • Video production of several social media reels highlighting the events.
  • Managing media on the ground during all events, including media credentialing and a media walkthrough the day prior, to ensure the media’s success in covering the events. JGPR also arranged for several interviews and other unique opportunities for media coverage in between the main events and over the course of the weekend.
  • Managing, ordering, ensuring setup, and planning for the placement of two large media risers for broadcast and still cameras.
  • Coordinating pool and drone footage.
  • On-site, fully-staffed media relations tent for both days.
