BEDFORD – Town Manager Sarah Stanton, Chief Robert Bongiorno and the Bedford Police Department are pleased to announce that Detective Sgt. Richard Vitale has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
Lt. Vitale has over 30 years of experience in law enforcement, having spent nine years serving with the Harvard University Police Department before joining Bedford Police, where he has worked for 21 years.
Lt. Vitale has served as a field training officer, an armorer, a defensive tactics instructor, a firearms instructor, a detective, a court prosecutor, a patrol sergeant, as union president, and most recently as a detective sergeant.
“Lt. Vitale has spent over two decades setting examples of outstanding leadership, communication and technical skills for the Bedford Police Department,” Chief Bongiorno said. “His first assignment as a lieutenant will be as the department’s Patrol Commander, where I am sure he will use his skills to serve the department and community.”
Lt. Vitale’s promotion was effective Saturday, Oct. 23.
