EAST BRIDGEWATER — Police Chief Michael Jenkins and Fire Chief Timothy Harhen report that the East Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments responded to a serious single-vehicle crash that resulted in a car fire on Saturday.
On Saturday, March 8, at approximately 11:48 a.m., the East Bridgewater Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a crash in the area of 260 West St. (Route 106).
Upon arrival, first responders found a vehicle that had crashed into a tree and was on fire.
Good Samaritans pulled the driver, an 83-YEAR-OLD WOMAN, of BRIDGEWATER, from the vehicle before first responders arrived. One of the good Samaritans, a nurse, delivered life-rendering cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the unconscious driver.
East Bridgewater Fire Department paramedics immediately took over advanced care upon arrival. The driver, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was taken by ambulance to Boston Medical Center.
The preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle driving eastbound on West Street crossed the center line and left the roadway. The vehicle struck and snapped a utility pole, then crashed into a tree, causing a fire.
“I would like to commend the good Samaritans who jumped into action and risked their own lives during an incredibly dangerous situation to rescue the driver and give her the best chance at surviving,” Chief Jenkins said. “Our town is filled with good-hearted and caring people, which was clearly displayed during this incident.”
