SAUGUS — Chief Michael Ricciardelli reports that the Saugus Police Department responded this morning after a car crashed into a utility pole and house.
At approximately 10:15 a.m., the Saugus Police were dispatched to 100 Essex St. for a report of a crash.
Upon arrival, officers found that a 2021 Nissan Sentra had crashed into a house as well as a utility pole, causing it to snap and fall to the ground.
The operator, a 64-year-old Saugus Man, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
The residents of the house were not home at the time of the crash. The house sustained damage to the front porch.
National Grid responded to the scene to repair the pole. A transformer was also damaged in the crash, causing power outages in the area. Essex St. will remain closed while repairs remain ongoing.
The Saugus Fire Department and Massachusetts State Police also responded to the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the Saugus Police Department, however a preliminary investigation indicates that the operator may have suffered a medical emergency.
