GLOUCESTER — Chief Eric Smith is pleased to share that the Gloucester Firefighter Local 762 Union will be hosting a virtual 5K next month to raise money for Shriners Hospital for Children.
The event will be held virtually from Monday, May 24 to Sunday, May 30. During that time, participants will be able to run, walk or jog a 5K race on a course of their choosing.
The cost to sign up is $30 and the first 150 participants will receive an event t-shirt. You do not need to complete the 5K in order to donate to the fundraiser. However, those who wish to complete the 5K will be able to choose their own course and track their progress by downloading the Pacer App to their mobile device. A link will be sent out prior to the start of the event so that those that wish to participate in the 5K can join the virtual race.

“We hope that you will join us for this virtual 5K next month and help raise money for this cause,” Chief Smith said. “Great work by Lt. Chad Mota and the union members who organized this event, and created this exceptional opportunity to help support this important work.”
All proceeds will go toward Shriners Hospital for Children in Boston, which provides specialized care and procedures for orthopaedic and neuromusculoskeletal conditions and injuries, burns, spinal cord injuries, cleft lip and palate, and other complex health care needs. More information about the hospital can be found here.
This is the first year that this event is being held.
