NORWOOD — Norwood General Manager Tony Mazzucco reports that Norwood Hospital has been partially evacuated due to heavy rain that caused flooding in the basement, resulting in an electrical issue on the premises and a loss of power. Approximately 20 people have been evacuated from the location with the possibility of more if the power outage is not resolved. Approximately 60 patients remain on the premises.
Around 6:30 p.m. heavy storms passed through the area accompanied by flash flooding that led to overwhelmed storm drains resulting in the flooding and subsequent loss of power at Norwood Hospital. Norwood Police and Fire responded to the scene.
“Thankfully no one was injured as the result of the power outage, and the most critical patients were moved out of the hospital,” said Tony Mazzucco, Norwood General Manager. “Crews are working to restore power back to the hospital and remove water in the building.”
