Raynham Police Arrest Man Wanted for Attempted Murder
RAYNHAM — Chief James Donovan reports that the Raynham Police Department arrested a man yesterday who was wanted out of Avon for attempted murder.
JOHN DAVENPORT, AGE 51, OF QUINCY was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder by Knife.
On Friday, Jan. 26, at approximately 12:55 p.m., Raynham Police were advised to be on the lookout for a white Ford F150 truck with an attached camper that was likely being driven by DAVENPORT.
At 1:04 p.m., Raynham officers located the truck and camper in the parking lot at Walmart, 36 Paramount Drive, and contacted the Avon Police Department, which had obtained a warrant for DAVENPORT’S arrest after he assaulted a female victim and stabbed her in the stomach earlier in the week.
Raynham Police, in cooperation with Avon Police, then took positions outside of the camper and approached the vehicle in an attempt to make contact with DAVENPORT.
Officers subsequently approached the camper and spoke with a woman who was inside, and observed significant movement inside the camper prior to her exiting to speak with them further.
Following a brief on-scene interview, the woman was removed from the immediate area and officers were able to initiate a conversation with DAVENPORT, who responded from inside the camper.
After a brief period of time, DAVENPORT complied with officers’ requests to exit the camper and was placed into custody without further incident. After the booking process was completed, DAVENPORT was transferred to the custody of the Avon Police Department.
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
