Project Linus Donates Blankets to the North Reading Police Department to Help Children

NORTH READING — Chief Michael P. Murphy is pleased to announce that the North Reading Police Department is working with Project Linus to create blankets that can be given to children in times of need.

Project Linus is a 100 percent volunteer organization that works to create handcrafted blankets for children who may be experiencing a serious illness or traumatic event and require comfort.

The North Reading Police Department is the first public safety organization in Massachusetts to work with Project Linus.

“As police officers, we often respond to situations where children are in distress and require a little extra comfort,” Chief Murphy said. “We’re so thankful that we were able to collaborate with Project Linus to have homemade blankets on hand for children in need.”

Lucy Maiullari, Project Linus Coordinator for the Greater Boston Chapter, dropped off several blankets to the North Reading police station on Monday, Feb. 6. The blankets will be kept in police cruisers so that responding officers will have them readily available if a situation arises where they’re needed.

“The Greater Boston Chapter is very excited to partner with the North Reading Police Department,” Maiullari said. “We look forward to providing many ‘handmade hugs’ to the children of North Reading.”

Additionally, the North Reading Police Department has partnered with members of the North Reading Senior Center, who have volunteered to make additional blankets for Project Linus and the community. Their goal is to assist police in making a positive difference in the town.
