Stoneham Police Officer Saves a Life, Brings Another Into the World in Less than a Week
STONEHAM – Chief James McIntyre and the Stoneham Police Department today are praising Officer Sheryl Rotondi on her outstanding response to two separate medical aid calls this month, saving a life at one and bringing a life into the world at the other.
“Officer Rotondi is an outstanding example of the top notch quality of law enforcement staff in the Stoneham Police Department,” Chief McIntyre said. “We are proud to call her one of our own.”
Then, on Oct. 15, Officer Rotondi was in the dispatch area of the police station during shift change when a man rushed into the police station looking for help. The man reported that someone had collapsed in the basement of the Congregational Church across the street from the station.
Officer Rotondi immediately responded to the scene and found a 47-year-old man on the floor, unresponsive and not breathing. Officer Rotondi initiated CPR until paramedics from Action Ambulance arrived on scene.
The male was transported to a local hospital where doctors credited Officer Rotondi with helping to save his life.
On Oct. 20, a motorist flagged down another Stoneham Police Officer and reported that his wife was in labor and would not make it to the hospital. Officer Rotondi responded to the scene along with the Stoneham Fire Department and Action Ambulance, and assisted with delivery as the baby was born in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
“I did what any of our other officers would have done in the same situation,” Officer Rotondi said. “Most importantly, both events worked out well for everyone involved.”
