Saugus Police Launch New Website, Social Media and Public Information Initiatives
SAUGUS — Police Chief Domenic J. DiMella is pleased to reveal the new look for the Saugus Police Department’s website, along with several new communication initiatives meant to bring information to the public quickly and easily.
“It is important that we deliver information to our citizens and give them tools to communicate with us using well-established and emerging technologies,” Chief DiMella said. “These newly implemented systems, along with the new website, will allow Saugus residents and business owners more opportunities to communicate with the department, while making it easier for our department to reach out to them.”
The new website, http://sauguspd.com features a news blog, downloadable police forms, a way to pay fees and fines online, and a department roster with contact information for every officer.
There is also a page showing citizens how they can submit anonymous tips to the department.
The website, designed by John Guilfoil Public Relations LLC, It is designed to be easy to read and navigate, and it is filled with photos of the department and important information that residents and business owners in Saugus may need or be interested in. The site is powered by the WordPress Genesis framework, making it easy for officers to update and making the site search engine friendly. A focal point of the site is the news blog, with articles, breaking news, and press releases all in one place.
Another new initiative, the BlackBoard Connect a mass communication tool, is now available for residents and business owners in Saugus. The system can send e-mails, text messages, voicemails, and update Facebook and Twitter in an instant, to alert citizens in an emergency situation. It is important that those in Saugus log in at https://townofsauguswebportal.bbcportal.com to ensure their information is correct and up to date so that they receive this important information when necessary.
Users may also sign up for Nixle, another communication initiative at https://local.nixle.com/city/ma/saugus/. This delivers text messages on information such as parking bans, scams in the area, and traffic updates.
Generally, Nixle will contain important information that residents and business owners will want to know about their community. BlackBoard Connect, on the other hand, will brodcast EMERGENCY information that is vital for citizens to know immediately.
Finally, Chief DiMella encourages everyone to follow Saugus Police on Twitter @SaugusPD and “Like” their Facebook page here.
