EAST BRIDGEWATER — Chief Michael Jenkins is pleased to announce that the East Bridgewater Police Department has appointed two new full-time officers, effective Jan. 2, 2025.
Officers Jessy Heger and Conner McDermott both began their careers as department dispatchers and have been reserve police officers for East Bridgewater since 2021.
In April, Heger and McDermott will attend the 22-week Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) 78th Recruit Officer Course in Plymouth, which is for full-time officers.
Officer Heger grew up in East Bridgewater and graduated from Westfield State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, with minors in political science and business management. In 2020, she attended the MPTC Basic Reserve Police Academy.
She then began working full-time as a department dispatcher and was appointed as a reserve officer in 2021.
She values quality time with her family, friends, and dog. In the summer, she enjoys spending days off at the beach, and in the winter, she enjoys snowboarding.
“The best part of the job is the opportunity to work closely with very experienced and knowledgeable police officers, as well as the residents of the town,” Heger said. “I am eager for this new opportunity to attend the academy and to be working full-time as an officer for the East Bridgewater Police Department.”
Officer McDermott grew up in East Bridgewater, where he attended public school. After high school, he attended Bridgewater State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
He has worked as a full-time dispatcher for the East Bridgewater Police Department since 2018. McDermott also attended the MPTC Basic Reserve Police Academy in 2021 and was appointed as a reserve officer upon graduation.
His hobbies include staying fit, watching movies, cooking and grilling, and going to his beach house in Maine with friends and family. He ran the Boston Marathon in 2023.
He was an assistant football coach at East Bridgewater Jr./Sr. High School from 2015 to 2020 and is currently an assistant football coach at Pembroke.
“The best part of this job is giving back to the Town of East Bridgewater,” McDermott said. “I enjoy being able to leave a positive impact on our community on a daily basis.”
“Both Officer Hager and Officer McDermott have been invaluable members of our team for years, and I’m appreciative of their continued commitment to serve our community,” Chief Jenkins said. “I look forward to their continued service in East Bridgewater and know that they will excel in their roles.”
