BILLERICA — Police Chief Roy Frost is pleased to report that the Billerica Police department promoted Lt. Mark Tsoukalas, and Sergeants Ryan Koles and Rocco Magliozzi last week.
On Thursday, Dec. 19, the Billerica Police Department officially promoted Lt. Tsoukalas, Sgt. Koles and Sgt. Magliozzi to their new positions.
Lt. Mark Tsoukalas has been working with the Billerica Police Department since 1999. Lt. Tsoukalas was instrumental in restarting the Billerica Police K9 program in 2003 after the department went years without a K9. He was a member of the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC) K9 Unit from 2004 to 2024 and served for a time as commander of the unit. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2019 and was reassigned to oversee the Traffic Department in 2024.
Lt. Tsoukalas was a longtime Field Training Officer, and recently helped oversee an update for the entire field training officer program. Lt. Tsoukalas holds a Bachelor’s degree from Suffolk University.
In his new position, he will be assigned as the Officer in Charge of the midnight to 8 a.m. shift.
Sgt. Ryan Koles has been a member of the Billerica Police Department since 2014, and prior to his service with Billerica Police he worked for two years for the Dunstable Police Department. Sgt. Koles has been a longtime Field Training Officer and is a member of the Billerica Police Honor Guard. Sgt. Koles became a K9 handler in 2023. He has been recognized several times for assisting in locating missing or suicidal individuals with his K9 partner, Cassius. Sgt. Koles holds a Bachelor’s degree from Westfield State University.
In his new position, he will be assigned as a patrol sergeant on the midnight to 8 a.m. shift.
Sgt. Rocco Magliozzi has been working for the department since 2014. Sgt. Magliozzi has been a K9 handler since 2018. Sgt. Magliozzi is very respected in the K9 handler field, having found numerous missing or suicidal individuals with his K9 partner, Skye. He and Skye have also been recognized for finding crucial pieces of evidence in serious crimes. Sgt. Magliozzi is a Field Training Officer and is a major contributor in the department’s Community Policing and Social Media Units. Sgt. Magliozzi holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts.
In his new position, he will be assigned as a patrol sergeant on the 4 p.m. to midnight shift.
