BURLINGTON – Chief Thomas P. Browne and Chief Andrew Connerty report that the Burlington Police and Fire Departments responded Saturday to a crash on the Middlesex Turnpike involving a driver who was suffering from a mental health crisis.
On Saturday, Jan. 20, at approximately 11:15 a.m., the Burlington Police and Fire Departments were called to the Middlesex Turnpike near Route 128 for a report of a motor vehicle crash.
First responders arrived to discover a single-vehicle crash involving a driver who was suffering from a mental health crisis and actively harming themselves.
Burlington Firefighters and Police used their training and experience to intervene and prevent the driver from harming themselves further. The driver was transported to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Burlington Police Department.
