STONEHAM — Chief James O’Connor is pleased to announce that Officer Nicholas Palmieri was named the 2023 Stoneham Police Officer of the Year by a unanimous vote of a committee of peers and supervisors.
Officer Palmieri has been with Stoneham Police since March of 2021, and works the 3:30 to 11:30 p.m. shift. He also serves as a field training officer.
Officer Palmieri was recognized for being hardworking, devoted, and displaying a level of commitment in his work each day. He is known as one of the most proactive and productive officers in the department, who continually displays characteristics of a well-rounded police officer.
“Officer Palmieri never hesitates to help a fellow officer, and he never shows up to work just to check a box,” said Chief O’Connor. “He truly cares about the quality of service that the Stoneham Police Department puts forth into the community.”
The Police Officer of the Year Award is meant to recognize exemplary work, not only in terms of work productivity, such as numbers of arrests, citations, summonses, etc. It’s is also an opportunity to recognize and highlight the officer’s commitment to the department and the Stoneham community, their strength of character, and ability to show compassion and empathy for others as well as their dedication to duty.
The Officer of the Year award is an annual tradition at the Stoneham Police Department, with a committee of officers and supervisors voting on the recipient.
The officer who earns the distinction each year is awarded one day off with pay and provided a dedicated parking spot for the remainder of the calendar year.
