MAYNARD — The following is a statement from Chief Michael Noble regarding the death of Tyre Nichols earlier this month in Memphis, Tennessee:
“I join my colleagues and fellow Chiefs in Massachusetts and throughout the country in condemning the violent actions of the five former Memphis Police officers involved in the death of Tyre Nichols. Their actions are the antithesis of the oath we take upon becoming police officers. Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis said it correctly when she said the actions of these officers ‘defies humanity.’
“Maynard officers complete regular training in areas including but not limited to de-escalation, implicit bias and use of force so that they have the necessary knowledge, training and resources that will help contribute to the best possible outcome in all interactions.
“Furthermore, our core values as a department include Integrity, Professionalism, Compassion, Teamwork and Community Satisfaction, all of which were absent from the conduct of the Memphis officers during their interactions with Mr. Nichols.
“The men and women of the Maynard Police Department pledge to continue to adhere to our core principals and strive every day to treat all with dignity and respect. “
