SOMERSET — In observation of the upcoming Soap Box Derby and Spirit of Somerset events this coming weekend, the Somerset Police Department will enact a series of parking and traffic restrictions in the areas of the Slade’s Ferry District and Waterfront Park area.
In observation of the Soap Box Derby and Spirit of Somerset events on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. respectively, unauthorized vehicles parked in the Slade’s Ferry District and Waterfront Park area in specifically posted sites will be tagged and towed if necessary.
Parking/traffic restrictions will be put in place on Saturday, Sept. 17, as follows:
Parking will be restricted on both sides of the street between 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. as indicated below:
- Slade’s Ferry Boulevard; and,
- Brayton Avenue – from Slade’s Ferry Boulevard south to McArthur Avenue.
Parking will be restricted on both sides of the street between 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. as indicated below:
- Palmer Street – from High Street west to Davis Street;
- Clark Street;
- Maple Street – from High Street east to Main Street;
- Church Street;
- School Street;
- Pierce Lane;
- Cherry Street; and,
- Main Street – from Church Street south to South Street.
Parking will be restricted on the utility pole side of the street between 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. as indicated below:
- Old Colony Avenue – from Pleasant Street east to Pilot Drive;
- Avon Street;
- Maple Street – from High Street west to Seward Avenue; and,
- High Street – from Avon Street south to South Street.
In addition, traffic will be restricted on the following roadway(s) from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. as indicated below:
- Slade’s Ferry Boulevard – no vehicular traffic eastbound from Brayton Avenue and westbound from Riverside Avenue (MA Route 103).
Traffic will also be restricted on the following roadway(s) from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. as indicated below:
- School Street – RESIDENT TRAFFIC ONLY eastbound from High Street towards Main Street; and,
- Main Street – RESIDENT TRAFFIC ONLY southbound from Church Street south to South Street.
Police officers will be deployed in the above areas to service the events. In order to facilitate the safe and orderly flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, visitors to the areas are asked to employ due caution and to stand by for lawful direction from police officers when appropriate.
