NORTH READING 一 The North Reading Police Department is pleased to announce that 13 women recently completed the Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) course offered by North Reading Police.
The 12-hour program incorporates awareness, verbal tactics, and defensive physical skill training into a self-confidence building program. Classroom work is followed by hands-on tactical practice and dynamic simulations.
The course was taught by certified instructors Sgt. Paul Dorsey, Sgt. Kevin Donle, Detective Michael Marra, and Drug-Free Communities Director Amy Luckiewicz.
“I didn’t think I’d have the courage to defend myself, much less the strength, but I did,” a participant reflected after the course. “The officers and Amy were tough, respectful, and extremely efficient at what they do. I thank them for helping me achieve what I thought I couldn’t.”
A second summer course, which will be held this August, is full. To be added to the waitlist, please visit www.northreadingma.gov/CIT and click on RAD: Rape Aggression Defense.
The North Reading Police Department hopes to offer another course by the end of 2022.
“I want to express my gratitude to Amy Luckiewicz and all of the North Reading Police staff who make these self-defenses courses possible, and available to our residents,” said Chief Murphy. “These classes help women build self confidence as they learn defensive skills, and I encourage all interested residents to consider participating.”
