PEPPERELL – Police Chief David Scott is pleased to announce that the Pepperell Police Department will be adding its first K-9 unit, and is seeking the public’s help in choosing a name for the newest member of the department.
“We are excited to welcome our newest officer, and hope that our community will help us choose a name that best fits him,” Chief Scott said.

The K-9, due to arrive next week, is a two-year-old German Shepard. He will spend the next few months getting used to his new surroundings and will live with the department’s chosen K-9 handler, Officer Dan Adams. Beginning in March, the pair will attend a 14-week training program at the Boston Police Academy.
The start-up costs for the K-9 are being funded by a grant from the Stanton Foundation, which will pay an initial $32,000 toward the costs of a kennel, refurbishing a cruiser, and other initial expenses. Additional money will be awarded to the Pepperell Police Department as training is completed.
“A K-9 unit can be a huge asset to a department, especially when we are looking for a missing person or a suspect who fled a scene. We also hope the K-9 will help us further connect with our community,” Chief Scott said. “We can’t thank the Stanton Foundation enough. Their help is integral to making this addition to our department possible.”
