PROVIDENCE — The Rhode Island Police Chiefs’ Association is pleased to announce that Executive Director Sid Wordell was honored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving-Rhode Island today.
As part of MADD-RI’s annual awards breakfast, Director Wordell was honored with a Excellence in Service award.
He was one of three Excellence in Service winners, along with Lt. Jeffrey L’Heureux of the Rhode Island State Police, and Supervisor Albert Giusti of the Rhode Island Department of Health’s forensic laboratories.
The event is an annual gathering of state law enforcement officials that recognizes those who work to end impaired driving on Rhode Island roadways.
Nearly two dozen law enforcement officials and advocates were honored at the event, in the categories of DUI officer of the year, rookie of the year, DUI enforcement, drug recognition, emergency services, emergency dispatch, volunteering, education and community outreach.
“Director Wordell works tirelessly to reduce impaired driving, not just through RIPCA but statewide with our many local, state and federal partners,” said RIPCA President Chief Richard Ramsay. “I cannot think of a more deserving recipient for this award, and on behalf of the Rhode Island Police Chiefs’ Association I congratulate Sid on this honor.”
Director Wordell retired as Chief of the Little Compton Police Department in 2014, serving the department for 27 years. He has also served on the executive board of the New England Association of Chiefs of Police. He became Executive Director of RIPCA in 2016, and is the only executive director in the organization’s history.
RIPCA partners with MADD-RI for several events, programs and initiatives throughout the year that focus on safe driving and supporting the families of those lost to impaired driving fatalities. To learn more, click here.
