NAHANT — The Nahant Fire Department reports that its firefighters extinguished a garage fire earlier today.
At approximately 2:45 p.m., Nahant Fire responded to a residence at 8 Flash Road for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found a detached garage engulfed in flames.
The first arriving fire units encountered heavy flames throughout the structure as well as coming from the roof. Firefighters were able to work to extinguish the flames quickly and prevent the fire from spreading beyond the garage. The fire was placed under control within 15 minutes.
No one was inside the garage at the time of the fire and no firefighters were injured. The scene was cleared by 4:45 p.m.
The garage is considered a total loss due to heavy fire and smoke damage.
The Swampscott, Lynn and Revere Fire Departments provided assistance on scene and the Revere Fire Department also provided station coverage.
The Nahant Police Department also responded and closed Flash Road. The road has since been reopened.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Nahant Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
