SALEM, N.H. — Police Chief Joel Dolan and Fire Chief Lawrence Best report that the Salem Police and Fire Departments responded to an accident on Saturday afternoon in which a car struck a residence, resulting in serious injuries to both the driver and a child inside the home.
At about 2 p.m., the Department received multiple 9-1-1 calls about a motor-vehicle accident on Silver Brook Road. First responders arrived to discover a 2019 Acura RDX traveling southbound on Silver Brook Road had left the road and crashed into a home, then multiple bushes and trees. The male driver, the lone passenger, was trapped inside the vehicle. First responders also learned that a young female child inside the home had been injured in the accident.
First responders removed the driver from the vehicle through the windshield. The Salem Fire Department transported both the driver and child to Lawrence General Hospital. The child was then transported by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital, and is undergoing emergency surgery for her injuries.
A preliminary investigation by the Salem Police Department has determined that speed and alcohol were factors in this crash. The Salem Police Collison Analysis and Reconstruction Team (CAR), along with Salem Detectives, are actively investigating the accident.
Silver Brook Road is closed between Candlestick Lane and Nugget Hill Road as the investigation continues.
