METHUEN — Mayor Neil Perry reports that he has this afternoon placed Methuen Police Chief Joseph Solomon and Police Captain Gregory Gallant on paid administrative leave.
Executive Captain Kristopher McCarthy has been named Acting Chief of Police and Lieutenant Randy Haggar has been named Captain of Field Operations.
The actions were taken after Mayor Perry spoke with the Office of the Inspector General on Wednesday and after he received a report from the Inspector General issued Wednesday at 2:42 p.m.
“As this is a personnel matter, there is much we cannot discuss at this time,” Mayor Perry said. “This matter will be handled with all appropriate due diligence, transparency and professionalism.”
Mayor Perry adds that the actions taken today are not disciplinary actions but were taken to give the City an opportunity to fully review and act upon the recommendations of the Office of the Inspector General and the anticipated audit of the Methuen Police Department that is expected soon.
“I intend to follow the appropriate guidance of the Inspector General and will carefully consider this report, the soon to be received audit, and all applicable laws in arriving at a proper course of action,” Mayor Perry said.
