SAUGUS — Chief Michael Ricciardelli reports that a driver was cited following a single-vehicle crash Thursday night.
At approximately 7:15 p.m., Saugus Police responded to the Dunkin’ Donuts, located at 35 Lincoln Ave., for a report of a vehicle that had crashed into a utility pole and the Dunkin’ Donuts sign.
Upon arrival, officers found that a GMC pickup truck had crashed through a utility pole, snapping it at the base and causing wires to be down across Lincoln Avenue and Chestnut Street. The truck had then crashed into the Dunkin’ Donuts pylon sign.
The driver of the vehicle was evaluated on scene but declined to be transported to a hospital.
Following an on-scene investigation, the driver, a 19-YEAR-OLD MALE, OF BILLERICA, was issued a citation for:
- Speeding
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Liquor by a Person Under 21
The vehicle was towed from the scene.
An electrical inspector and crews from National Grid, Comcast and Verizon responded to the scene. The area of Lincoln Avenue and Chestnut Street remains closed while crews are on scene.
