FAIRFIELD — Chief Christopher Lyddy is pleased to announce that the Fairfield Police Department promoted six of its officers this week.
On Tuesday, Aug. 18, six officers were sworn into their new ranks during a ceremony at the Fairfield Police Headquarters. Town Clerk Betsy Browne swore in the officers at the ceremony.
“I want to extend a sincere congratulations to each of the six officers who received promotions this week,” Chief Lyddy said. “These officers have demonstrated hard work and dedication over the years and I am confident that they will excel in their new positions and be great assets to the Fairfield Police Department and the entire community.”
John Bucherati
John Bucherati was promoted to the rank of captain. He has been with the Fairfield Police Department for 30 years and has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in cyber security, both from Sacred Heart University.
Over the course of his career, Capt. Bucherati has served in the Patrol Division, Special Services Division, Youth Bureau and served on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Bridgeport Task force.
Gregory Gunter
Gregory Gunter was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. He has been with the Fairfield Police Department for 28 years.
During that time, Lt. Gunter has been assigned to several divisions including the Patrol Division, Youth Bureau and the Support Services Bureau. He also currently serves as an Explorer Advisor and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Northeast Regional Law Enforcement Education Association.
Matthew Riendeau
Matthew Riendeau, of Fairfield, was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. He has been with the Fairfield Police Department for 11 years.
During his time at the Fairfield Police Department, he has been assigned to the Patrol Division and Investigative Division. He has also received over 70 noteworthy police work recognitions including a Certificate of Recognition, three Letters of Commendation and four Chiefs Recognition Medals.
Prior to his work with the Fairfield Police Department, Lt. Riendeau served in the United States Marine Corps as an Infantry Machine Gunner.
Evan Kaesmann
Evan Kaesmann was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He has been with the Fairfield Police Department for 11 years and attended Central Connecticut State University where he majored in political science with a criminal justice minor.
Sgt. Kaesmann served in the Special Services Division and is currently a K-9 handler. He has also received 29 separate recognitions for noteworthy police work, two Chief’s Recognition Medals and one Unit Citation.
Romaine Chamberlain
Romaine Chamberlain was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He joined the Fairfield Police Department in 2015 and has a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in international studies from Arizona State University.
Since joining the Fairfield Police Department, Sgt. Romaine has served as a member of the Patrol Division and the Police Honor Guard. He has also been officially recognized on eighteen different occasions for noteworthy police work.
Michael Colwell
Michael Colwell was promoted to the rank of detective. He joined the Fairfield Police Department in 2016 and has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Sacred Heart University.
Det. Colwell also serves the Town of Fairfield as an operator on the Emergency Services Unit and a Diver on the Dive Team.
