GLOUCESTER — Chief Eric Smith is pleased to announce that multiple members of the Gloucester Fire Department participated in the BFit First Responder Challenge over the weekend.
On Sunday, Jan. 26, five Gloucester firefighters took part in the fourth annual fitness event hosted by the Boston Bruins at TD Garden to raise money to support to the families of fallen first responders, as well as firefighters who have fallen victim to occupational illnesses.
Firefighters Charlie Scola, James Hannon III and Andrew Pierce, along with Lt. Nicholas Ouellette and Lt. Chad Mota made up the Gloucester Fire Department’s team, which was making its second appearance in the challenge.
The event featured courses with varying levels of difficulty, that first responders completed wearing their gear — including firefighters wearing full protective turnout gear — as well as activities for attendees of all ages.
“This is a great event that’s quickly becoming a tradition for our members,” Chief Smith said. “I’m proud of their efforts to take part in this physically demanding endeavor and raise money for such a valuable cause.”
Fundraising for the BFit challenge remains open until noon on Feb. 20, and residents are invited to donate to the Gloucester Fire team, which is raising money for the Boston Bruins Foundation. To donate online, click here.
